The Battery Passport is mandatory from February 2027. Be ready.

Under EU Regulation 2023/1542, every EV, light-transport and industrial battery over 2 kWh placed on the EU market must carry a QR-accessible battery passport from 18 February 2027 — with a unique identifier and audience-scoped data.

What the battery passport carries

Annex XIII, in plain terms.

Each in-scope battery gets a unique ID and a QR resolving to its passport. Some fields apply from day one; others phase in as implementing acts land — the platform is built for both.

The compliance timeline

February 2027 is the line in the sand.

The registry is already live. The passport requirement is fixed; data obligations phase in from there.

The EU Digital Product Passport registry became operational on 20 July 2026.

Passport mandatory

QR-accessible battery passport required for EV, LMT and industrial (over 2 kWh) batteries.

Due diligence

Mandatory supply-chain due-diligence obligations begin to apply.

18 Aug 2031

Recycled-content thresholds

Initial minimum recycled-content thresholds take effect (rising again in 2036).
